Recordings of my Dad reading
Among hundreds of other books and stories Dad read to us, Damon Runyon stories were among our favorites, and likely his as well. I still have his battered wartime paperback editions of these. With printing dates of 1943 and 1944, it's clear he entertained himself with these serving at the end of WWII on the USS Prairie in San Diego. After moving to Seattle in the mid 1980s and retiring, he took up a volunteer position with the local school reading to kids there for years. One hopes those kids in turn got the bug for reading to their kids, and kids beyond.
These two stories were apparently recorded for his older brother Paul and our aunt Charlotte in 1991. We're deeply grateful for having it sent to us by our cousins. To have Dad's voice is a treasure!
